Alice Ferguson foundation

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) partnered with Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF) through grant funding in 2017, for the development of watershed education in their middle and high school curriculum. Unfortunately, the field components of these programs were discontinued when the initial grant funding ran out. CCPS currently has complete MWEEs in the elementary and middle school grades. They are working toward a full MWEE for the 9th grade Earth Systems and the AP Environmental Science courses.

In 2024, VFF began supporting the reintroduction of the field components for these high school courses through the partnership with AFF. We were pleased to see the prior curriculum continued to be used as the classroom component of the MWEE.

This grant builds onto the current CCPS program offerings and enables students to achieve complete fulfillment of the MWEE. This includes making necessary curriculum revisions and incorporates the specifics of the field investigations that will be offered. These will be supported by additional professional development training and scheduling and support for field investigations. AFF will also develop resources for CCPS teachers and academic/career counselors to use to inform students about environment-related career opportunities.
