Sultana Education Foundation
Sultana Education Foundation (SEF) serves over 11,000 students per year from both public and private schools throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore. They provide programing to all Kent Country Public School students Pre-K through 8th grade. Their focused curriculum offers MWEEs in 4th and 7th grades in Kent County and a 6th grade MWEE in Queen Anne’s County Public School.
The Veverka Family Foundation began supporting SEF in 2012. We funded the development of the Watershed Watch 7th Grade MWEE programming in 2017. We continue to support their work as they expand to teach kids at the Lawrence Wetlands Preserve, Holt Center, and on the Sultana.
In the 7th grade MWEE, students investigate the health of the Radcliffe Creek Watershed and develop student-led action projects to improve its health. The program includes nine modules in a field guide, three field trips, and is supported with in-class lessons.
In the 4th grade MWEE, students focus on the impacts of erosion on water quality in watersheds. The program includes two field trips, a student field guide, a schoolyard survey, and concludes with a student-led action project.
This year, they will expand their comprehensive MWEE programming to Queen Anne’s County Public Schools 6th grade students.
